Care of Outside Trees in Summer

juniper in summerNow that we are into the full swing of summer it is important to make sure that outside trees are watered frequently. The best location to grow bonsai is in dappled shade unless you don''t mind -and are diligent about- frequent waterings.

The bugs of summer are back. This time of year it is important to routinely check trees for pests. If your tree is kept outside, you shouldn''t have to worry too much because there are also lots of beneficial insects around to keep things in check (providing you don''t keep all bugs away with frequent applications of insecticides). However indoor trees don''t have the natural defense of predatory insects available to them.

Safer and Concern products usually work really well to eliminate pests and their eggs in 2-3 applications. Just be sure not to use them on hot sunny days. Check product labels for specific instructions. Also see our article on battling bugs on bonsai here.
